CGPA Calculator for Pakistani Universities

Your CGPA is the credit-hour weighted average of every course you have taken: multiply each course’s grade point by its credit hours, add them up, and divide by your total credit hours. This free CGPA calculator does that using your own university’s official grading scale, and shows your semester GPA, cumulative CGPA and percentage together. Select your university below, enter your marks or grades, and download the result as a PDF.

It runs entirely in the browser, so it also works as an online gpa calculator Pakistan students can open on a phone between classes, and as the cgpa calculator Pakistan students search for most, since it already matches their own university’s grading scale instead of a generic 4.0 table.

No university selected, using the common HEC-style scale.

What is CGPA, and how is it different from SGPA?

SGPA (Semester Grade Point Average) is the average for a single semester. CGPA (Cumulative Grade Point Average) is the average across every semester you have completed. Both are credit-hour weighted, which means a 3-credit course influences your average three times as much as a 1-credit lab.

The arithmetic behind both numbers is the same three steps:

  1. Convert each course’s marks to a grade point using your university’s grading scale (85% might be an A worth 4.00).
  2. Multiply that grade point by the course’s credit hours to get its quality points.
  3. Divide total quality points by total credit hours. Over one semester that is your SGPA; over your whole degree it is your CGPA.

On this page, Semester GPA mode is a semester gpa calculator on its own: enter one term’s courses and it returns that term’s SGPA. Switch to Cumulative mode and the same tool becomes a gpa to cgpa calculator, taking the semester GPAs you already have and rolling them into one CGPA, the same gpa to cgpa step people mean when they search for a sgpa to cgpa calculator or a semester gpa to cgpa calculator.

A worked example with real numbers is in how to calculate CGPA in Pakistan, and the difference between the two averages is unpacked in SGPA vs CGPA.

The CGPA formula behind this CGPA calculator

CGPA = (Σ (GP × CH))/(Σ CH)

where:

GP
Grade point earned in a course
CH
Credit hours for that course
Σ
Sum across every course counted

How to use this calculator

  1. Pick your university. The calculator switches to that institution’s official grading scale and colours, which is what makes this a cgpa calculator with grading scale built in per university rather than one fixed 4.0 table, and effectively a university gpa calculator matched to wherever you study. If yours is not listed yet, the common HEC-style scale is used instead, so it still works as a fallback hec cgpa calculator until your own institution’s page goes live.
  2. Choose a mode. Use Semester GPA to enter this term’s courses, or Cumulative CGPA if you already know each semester’s GPA and just want the running average.
  3. Enter marks or grades. Marks give you an exact percentage as well as a GPA. Grades are quicker if your result card only shows letters.

Your entries are saved in your own browser, so closing the tab does not lose them. Nothing is uploaded to a server.

Where to find your credit hours and marks

Every figure this calculator needs is printed on documents you already have:

  • Credit hours: on your semester registration slip or the course catalogue. Theory courses are usually 3, labs 1, and a few core courses 2.
  • Obtained and total marks: on the result card your university publishes at the end of term, usually in the student portal (LMS, CMS or a similar name).
  • Semester GPA: printed on the same result card, often beside the term name. That is the number you type into CGPA mode.

If your transcript shows courses marked with an asterisk, those are typically deficiency courses taken to clear an admission shortfall. Whether they count toward your CGPA and toward the credit hours needed to graduate varies by university, so check your own result card, because the two are often treated differently on the same page.

Because every one of those figures comes straight off a real Pakistani result card, this is the sgpa calculator pakistan students already reach for to double-check that card by hand, semester by semester, before trusting the university’s own printed total.

Grading scales are not standard across Pakistan

The Higher Education Commission publishes a recommended letter-grade framework, but each university sets its own bands and grade points, and many revise them between regulation versions. Two students with identical marks at different universities can end up with different GPAs.

Used with no university selected, this section of the calculator behaves as a plain hec grading scale calculator, converting marks with the commission’s own recommended bands before you narrow it down to the exact scale your own transcript uses.

The mapping many Pakistani universities follow looks like this:

Common HEC-style grading scale used across many Pakistani universities
Marks (%)GradeGrade point
85–100A4.00
80–84A-3.67
75–79B+3.33
71–74B3.00
68–70B-2.67
64–67C+2.33
61–63C2.00
58–60C-1.67
54–57D+1.33
50–53D1.00
0–49F0.00

This is a common convention, not a universal standard. Select your university above to use its published scale instead, and always confirm against your own academic regulations before relying on a number for a scholarship or visa application.

Does your CGPA actually matter?

It matters in specific places rather than universally. In Pakistan a CGPA is usually checked for merit scholarships and HEC-funded programmes, for postgraduate admission, for graduate schemes at large employers and the civil service, and for foreign university applications that ask for a converted grade. It matters much less for most private-sector hiring after your first job, where portfolio and experience dominate.

As a rough guide to how CGPAs are read in Pakistan: 3.5 and above is treated as strong, 3.0 and above as solid, and below 2.0 usually triggers academic probation. These are widely used conventions, not policy. Your university publishes the thresholds that actually bind you.

Most of this applies whether you are tracking a two-year associate program or a typical four-year BS degree split into eight regular semesters, the most common shape in Pakistan. Used semester by semester, this works as a straightforward bs degree cgpa calculator for that far more common case.

How to move your CGPA (and why it gets harder)

The maths works against late corrections. Your CGPA is weighted by every credit hour you have already banked, so a single excellent semester early in a degree moves it far more than the same semester in your final year. After roughly 90 credit hours, one strong term typically shifts a CGPA by only a few hundredths. Because this cumulative gpa calculator recalculates your running average the instant you add a hypothetical semester, it is also the fastest way to see that math play out with your own numbers instead of taking it on faith.

  • Protect the high-credit courses. A 3-credit theory course is worth three 1-credit labs. Spend your revision time proportionally.
  • Retake early, if your university allows it. Most Pakistani universities cap how many courses you may repeat and whether the better grade replaces the old one. Check your regulations before planning around it.
  • Model it before you commit. Add a hypothetical semester in CGPA mode above to see exactly what a target GPA would do to your average.

Working backward: how the GPA Planner reaches a target CGPA

The calculator above also includes a GPA Planner tab, effectively a gpa planner calculator in its own right, and its arithmetic is worth spelling out because it runs the CGPA formula in reverse. Instead of computing a CGPA from courses you have already finished, it works out the semester GPA you still need across your remaining credit hours to land on a CGPA you are aiming for.

The planner needs four numbers: your current CGPA, the credit hours you have already completed, your target CGPA, and the credit hours you have left before you graduate. From those, it first works out the total quality points a transcript at the target CGPA would need to show: multiply the target CGPA by your total credit hours once you finish, completed plus remaining. It then subtracts the quality points you already have, your current CGPA multiplied by your completed credit hours, to see how many quality points the remaining courses still need to supply, and divides that by the remaining credit hours to get the GPA required over what is left.

Worked example. A student has a 3.20 CGPA after 90 completed credit hours and 30 credit hours left before graduating, and wants to finish at 3.35. The finished transcript needs 3.35 × 120 = 402 quality points in total. The 90 credit hours already completed supplied 3.20 × 90 = 288 of those. The remaining 30 credit hours therefore need to supply 402 − 288 = 114 quality points, so the required GPA across them is 114 ÷ 30 = 3.80, a demanding but realistic target if the university’s maximum GPA is 4.00.

When the target is out of reach. Not every target survives this arithmetic. Take a student at a 2.50 CGPA after 100 credit hours with only 10 credit hours left, aiming for 3.50. The same calculation asks for 3.50 × 110 minus 2.50 × 100, divided by 10, which comes out to 13.50, far above any grading scale’s maximum GPA. Rather than showing an impossible number, the planner instead runs the formula in reverse with the maximum GPA fixed at 4.00: the highest reachable quality-point total is 250 + (4.00 × 10) = 290, over 110 total credit hours, for a CGPA of about 2.64. That is the honest ceiling for this student in the credit hours remaining, and it is the number the planner shows instead of a target that cannot be met.

The same reverse arithmetic is what separates adding a hypothetical semester to see what happens from getting an actual answer to what you need this semester. Running it once with your own numbers before registration, rather than after results are posted, is the entire point of the tab.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate my CGPA in Pakistan?

Multiply each course’s grade point by its credit hours to get quality points, add the quality points for every course you have taken, then divide by the total credit hours. For example, 76.70 quality points across 20 credit hours gives a CGPA of 3.83. The calculator on this page does this for you once you enter your courses or your per-semester GPAs.

Is this CGPA calculator free?

Yes. Every calculator on this site is free, needs no sign-up, and runs entirely in your browser. Your marks are never uploaded to a server. They are stored only in your own browser so you can come back to them later.

What is the difference between SGPA and CGPA?

SGPA is the credit-hour weighted average for one semester. CGPA is the same calculation applied to every semester you have completed so far. A strong SGPA moves your CGPA a lot early in a degree and very little once you have banked many credit hours.

Which grading scale does this calculator use?

It uses the official published scale of whichever university you select, transcribed from that institution’s own academic regulations and cited on its page. If you have not selected a university, it falls back to the common HEC-style scale where 85% and above is an A worth 4.00.

How do I convert my CGPA to a percentage?

There is no single official conversion formula in Pakistan. If you have your actual marks, the honest answer is your real marks percentage, which this calculator shows automatically when you enter marks. The widely used rule of thumb of CGPA divided by 4 multiplied by 100 is an approximation only, and it is the same rough method behind most free cgpa to percentage calculator and percentage to cgpa calculator tools online. Enter your real marks instead, and this page’s own marks entry acts as a more accurate cgpa percentage converter, since it shows the true percentage rather than an estimate. For scholarship, HEC attestation or visa purposes, use the conversion your own university publishes.

Can I download my result as a PDF?

Yes. Both the Semester GPA and Cumulative CGPA modes have a download button that produces a PDF of your result, branded with your university’s logo and colours. For a full multi-semester result card with per-term SGPA and running CGPA, use the transcript generator Pakistan students turn to for a complete result card in one PDF instead of one semester at a time. Every generated document is clearly marked unofficial.

What does the GPA Planner tab do?

It works backward from a CGPA you are aiming for. Enter your current CGPA, the credit hours you have completed so far, your target CGPA, and how many credit hours you have left, and it tells you the GPA you need across those remaining credit hours to get there. If the number it shows is above your university’s maximum GPA, the target is not reachable in that many credit hours, and the planner tells you the highest CGPA you could still reach instead.

How to calculate total CGPA of all semesters?

Add the quality points from every semester, add the credit hours from every semester, and divide the first total by the second. Do not average the SGPAs. With 235.80 quality points over 69 credit hours after four semesters, your total CGPA is 3.42. Cumulative mode keeps those running totals for you, and the same steps answer how to calculate overall CGPA and how to calculate total CGPA for any number of semesters.

How to calculate CGPA out of 4, and is there a CGPA calculator out of 4?

Pakistani universities score on a 4.00 scale, so the CGPA you get from quality points divided by credit hours is already out of 4. This cgpa calculator out of 4 needs no conversion; a CGPA out of 10, as used in some other countries, follows a different table.

How to calculate CGPA from GPA, and how to calculate GPA from CGPA?

To calculate CGPA from GPA, weight each semester GPA by its credit hours: CGPA = sum of (GPA x credit hours) divided by total credit hours. That is what the gpa to cgpa calculator mode does, and a cgpa calculator from gpa rows works the same way. A cgpa to gpa calculator works backward: a semester's GPA = (new CGPA x new total hours - old CGPA x old hours) divided by the semester's hours.

Is there an average CGPA calculator or an aggregate CGPA calculator?

Yes, they all mean the same cumulative figure this tool produces. An average cgpa calculator, an aggregate cgpa calculator, an overall cgpa calculator and a total cgpa calculator each divide total quality points by total credit hours, so the result is weighted by credit hours rather than a plain average of your SGPAs.

Can I use this as an online CGPA calculator semester wise?

Yes. Add each semester as its own row in Cumulative mode, with its GPA and credit hours, and the tool works as a semester cgpa calculator, a cgpa calculator semester wise and a final cgpa calculator once every semester is in. Because it takes credit hours, it is also a cgpa calculator with credits.

Is there a GPA calculator for UOL or UE students?

Yes. Pick University of Lahore or University of Education from the university list and the calculator loads that university's own grading scale. A gpa calculator uol student and a ue gpa calculator user get the same credit-hour arithmetic, preloaded with their own bands.

How is CGPA calculated at a university with a different scale?

The formula is the same and only the marks-to-grade-point table changes. Select the university and the calculator uses its own scale, which is how cgpa is calculated on your result card. A university cgpa calculator preloaded with the right scale beats a generic one for exactly that reason.

Calculators by university

Each university page is pre-configured with that institution’s published grading scale and answers the questions its own students ask. Think of this as a cgpa calculator by university directory: every entry below is its own pakistani university gpa calculator, preloaded with that school’s real grading bands instead of a generic 4.0 table.
