Ziauddin University CGPA Calculator
Karachi, Sindh · public
At Ziauddin University, your CGPA is the credit-hour weighted average of every course you have taken: multiply each course's grade point by its credit hours, add those quality points across all your semesters, then divide by the total credit hours. Grade points come from the official Ziauddin University grading scale shown below, on which 85% or more earns A (4.00 points) and the maximum CGPA is 4.00. How grading works at Ziauddin University
Ziauddin is a private medical university rather than a public-sector institution, among the earliest of its kind in Pakistan, and for its semester-based BS and allied-health programmes the CGPA works exactly as it does at any HEC-aligned university: a course's grade point is scaled by its credit hours, the scaled figures are summed across a term, and dividing by credit hours attempted gives SGPA, with that same running total across every semester becoming CGPA out of 4.0.
Run by the Ziauddin Trust in Karachi, the university teaches MBBS and BDS alongside a growing list of BS programmes in allied health and applied sciences, meaning a student's actual grading experience depends heavily on whether they're on a professional clinical track or a standard semester-based BS degree. Clinical years assessed through professional examination boards typically follow pass-and-distinction rules rather than the CGPA arithmetic described above.
No single grading table covering both Ziauddin's clinical and semester-based programmes was confirmed while researching this page, so the calculator applies the general HEC-default bands to its BS-level degrees rather than a Ziauddin-specific document. Students on a clinical or professional track should check their own college's assessment policy instead, since it sits outside the CGPA system entirely.
Worked example: a full semester on the Ziauddin University scale
Here is a complete 15 credit-hour semester scored against the Ziauddin University grade points in the table above. The marks are illustrative, but every number after them is calculated the same way the calculator on this page calculates yours.
| Course | Credit hrs | Marks /100 | Grade | Grade point | Quality points |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Core course I | 3 | 93 | A | 4.00 | 3 × 4.00 = 12.00 |
| Core course II | 4 | 77 | B+ | 3.33 | 4 × 3.33 = 13.32 |
| Core course III | 3 | 69 | B- | 2.66 | 3 × 2.66 = 7.98 |
| Elective | 3 | 66 | C+ | 2.33 | 3 × 2.33 = 6.99 |
| Lab / practical | 2 | 59 | C- | 1.66 | 2 × 1.66 = 3.32 |
| Total | 15 | 43.61 |
Step by step
- Convert each course mark to a grade point. Work out each course as a percentage of its total marks, then read the letter off the Ziauddin University grading table. 93 out of 100 is 93%, which falls in the A band and is worth 4.00 grade points.
- Multiply each grade point by the course credit hours. Credit hours decide how much each course counts, so multiply to get quality points: 3 × 4.00 = 12.00, 4 × 3.33 = 13.32, 3 × 2.66 = 7.98, 3 × 2.33 = 6.99, 2 × 1.66 = 3.32.
- Add the quality points and the credit hours. Adding the five courses gives 43.61 quality points across 15 credit hours.
- Divide to get the semester GPA. 43.61 ÷ 15 = 2.90, the semester GPA for this term at Ziauddin University.
- Fold the semester into your CGPA. If you had already completed 45 credit hours at a CGPA of 3.20, those carry 144.00 quality points. Add this semester and the CGPA becomes (144.00 + 43.61) ÷ (45 + 15) = 3.13.
The division actually gives 2.9073; result cards print two decimals, so it appears as 2.90. Notice how the 4-credit course moves the average roughly twice as hard as the 2-credit lab. That credit-hour weighting is the whole reason a GPA is not just the average of your grade points.
