Every percentage band in gradingPlan matches this table exactly (85-100 A, 80-84 A-, 75-79 B+, 71-74 B, 68-70 B-, 64-67 C+, 61-63 C, 58-60 C-, 54-57 D+, 50-53 D, F below 50). The printed table shows 3.66 / 2.66 / 1.66 for A- / B- / C-; these are two-decimal truncations of 11/3, 8/3 and 5/3. Superior result cards reproduce exactly with the unrounded thirds, so gradingPlan stores 3.67 / 2.67 / 1.67. The same document sets: minimum pass 50%, minimum CGPA 2.00 throughout study, W / I / R and non-credit courses excluded from SGPA and CGPA, F counted as 0, repeat allowed below C with only the better grade counted (max 5 courses), Dean's List at SGPA 3.50, Rector's List at SGPA 3.70, gold medal at highest CGPA in batch and not below 3.50.

How grading works at Superior University

Superior University works out your CGPA by multiplying each course's grade point by its credit hours, adding those quality points across every semester, and dividing by the total credit hours those courses carry. Grade points come from an absolute scale on which 85% or above is an A worth 4.00, and the result is shown to two decimals on the transcript. Because the scale is absolute rather than curved, your letter depends only on your own marks, not on how the class performed.

The Lahore campus grades on eleven letters with plus and minus steps: A, A-, B+, B, B-, C+, C, C-, D+, D and F. The middle bands are tight: B covers only 71 to 74% while A stretches from 85 to 100%, so two or three marks can cost a third of a grade point. Credit-hour weighting decides how much each result matters, so a three-credit theory paper pulls about three times as hard as its one-credit lab.

Students admitted with a subject deficiency carry remedial CCQ-coded courses, such as Pre-Calculus (CCQ601290), printed with an asterisk. Those starred courses still earn grade points and still count in your SGPA and term percentage; they simply do not add to the credit hours counted toward the degree. The same scale governs BS Computer Science, BBA (Hons) and Pharm-D.

Here is a complete 15 credit-hour semester scored against the Superior University grade points in the table above. The marks are illustrative, but every number after them is calculated the same way the calculator on this page calculates yours.

Step by step

  1. Convert each course mark to a grade point. Work out each course as a percentage of its total marks, then read the letter off the Superior University grading table. 93 out of 100 is 93%, which falls in the A band and is worth 4.00 grade points.
  2. Multiply each grade point by the course credit hours. Credit hours decide how much each course counts, so multiply to get quality points: 3 × 4.00 = 12.00, 4 × 3.33 = 13.32, 3 × 2.67 = 8.01, 3 × 2.33 = 6.99, 2 × 1.67 = 3.34.
  3. Add the quality points and the credit hours. Adding the five courses gives 43.66 quality points across 15 credit hours.
  4. Divide to get the semester GPA. 43.66 ÷ 15 = 2.91, the semester GPA for this term at Superior University.
  5. Fold the semester into your CGPA. If you had already completed 45 credit hours at a CGPA of 3.20, those carry 144.00 quality points. Add this semester and the CGPA becomes (144.00 + 43.66) ÷ (45 + 15) = 3.13.

Notice how the 4-credit course moves the average roughly twice as hard as the 2-credit lab. That credit-hour weighting is the whole reason a GPA is not just the average of your grade points.

Deficiency courses at Superior University

Courses printed with a * on a Superior University result card are deficiency courses, taken to clear a shortfall from your prior qualification. On Superior University transcripts they are included in your SGPA and CGPA, but are not counted in the credit hours that go toward your degree. That is why the credit-hour total printed on a result card can be lower than the hours you actually studied.

Which Superior University programmes use this scale?

The same grading plan applies across Superior University’s degree programmes, including BS Computer Science, BS Software Engineering, BBA (Hons) and Pharm-D. Credit-hour loads differ by programme (a typical semester runs 15 to 18 credit hours), but the marks-to-grade-point mapping above does not change between them.

Superior University CGPA: frequently asked questions

What is a good CGPA at Superior University?

Superior's regulations treat 2.00 as the floor you must hold to stay off probation, so that is a survival line rather than a good score. The published merit markers sit much higher: a semester GPA of 3.50 puts you on the Dean's List, 3.70 on the Rector's List, and a gold medal needs the highest CGPA in your batch and never below 3.50.

How do I convert my Superior CGPA to a percentage?

Superior publishes no official CGPA-to-percentage formula. Your result card already prints a real percentage worked out from the marks you obtained against the marks offered, so quote that figure whenever a form allows it. If you must convert from CGPA alone, the common convention in Pakistan is CGPA divided by 4.00 and multiplied by 100, which is an estimate rather than a Superior rule.

Are deficiency courses counted in my CGPA?

Yes. A deficiency course carries an asterisk on your Superior result card, but it is graded like any other course and its quality points feed into both the semester GPA and the term percentage. What changes is the totals row: starred courses are excluded from the credit hours counted toward your degree, so your totals list fewer credits than courses.

What is the minimum CGPA to graduate from Superior University?

The undergraduate regulations require you to maintain a minimum CGPA of 2.00 throughout your period of study. Dropping below 2.00 at the end of a regular semester triggers a probation warning, and a second probation brings relegation. You also have to clear every course on its own, because the minimum pass mark in each course is 50%, which is a D.

How is SGPA different from CGPA at Superior University?

SGPA is the weighted grade-point average of a single semester; CGPA averages every credit course you have taken across all your semesters. Both apply the same credit-hour weighting and both appear rounded to two decimals on the transcript. One strong semester swings your SGPA sharply but moves your CGPA slowly, since it is diluted by everything already banked.

Does repeating a course improve my CGPA at Superior University?

It can. Undergraduates may repeat a course graded below C, and only the better of the two attempts is used in the CGPA; the superseded attempt is re-coded R and stops counting, though both still show on the transcript. The regulations cap this at five repeated courses per undergraduate degree, and an improved result is marked Imp.
