Gurugram, Haryana · private · est. 2010
Amity University Haryana works out CGPA by weighting every course grade by its credit hours. Multiply a course's grade point by its credit hours to get quality points, then divide the total quality points from all your semesters by the total credit hours those courses carry. The grade points come from the official Amity University Haryana grading scale shown below, a 9-band table topping out at 10.00 for A+ from 80%, so CGPA is reported out of 10.00. The lowest passing grade is C, awarded from 30%.

Table-A gives grade points A+/A/A-/B+/B/B-/C+/C/F = 10/9/8/7/6/5/4/3/0. Clause (3)(a) states the DEFAULT method for classes over 30 students is relative/statistical grading (Table-B, based on class mean and standard deviation), so a single fixed percentage table does not strictly apply to every course. However, clause (3)(c) provides an explicit ABSOLUTE fallback table (Table-C) used for classes of 30 or fewer students, giving minimum qualifying percentages per grade for UG programmes: A+ >=80, A >=70, A- >=65, B+ >=55, B >=50, B- >=45, C+ >=35, C >=30, F <30. This dataset uses Table-C (the genuine, published, fixed-percentage version) since it is the only one of the two methods expressible as a percentage-band table; students in larger relatively-graded classes may see a somewhat different grade for the same raw percentage depending on their cohort's results that semester. This document is specifically Amity University Haryana's own regulation (a legally separate university from Amity University Uttar Pradesh/Noida and Amity's other state campuses, though the Amity group's various state universities generally publish closely similar regulations). brandColor is an approximation, not from a published brand guideline.
How grading works at Amity University Haryana
SGPA at Amity University Haryana is the credit-weighted average of a student's grade points across a semester's courses, and CGPA carries the same weighting forward across every semester completed. What makes Amity's own regulation unusual is that it formally runs two different grading methods side by side: for larger classes (more than 30 students) it uses relative, statistics-based grading built around that specific class's mean and standard deviation, while for smaller classes (30 students or fewer) it falls back on a published, fixed percentage table running from F up to A+.
Amity University Haryana was established in 2010 as one of several legally separate, state-chartered universities operating under the wider Amity Education Group, alongside sister institutions such as Amity University Uttar Pradesh (Noida) and Amity University Rajasthan. Based in Gurugram (Manesar), it offers engineering, business, law and liberal-arts programmes and, like its sister campuses, publishes its own examination regulations even though the overall structure tends to closely mirror the group's other state universities.
Because a genuinely fixed, universal percentage-to-grade table only exists in Amity's own rules for smaller classes, this page uses that published table (Table-C of the examination regulations) as the representative scale; a student in a larger, relatively-graded class may see their grade shift slightly depending on how their specific cohort performed that semester, which this calculator cannot reproduce from marks alone.
Worked example: a full semester on the Amity University Haryana scale
Here is a complete 15 credit-hour semester scored against the Amity University Haryana grade points in the table above. The marks are illustrative, but every number after them is calculated the same way the calculator on this page calculates yours.
| Course | Credit hrs | Marks /100 | Grade | Grade point | Quality points |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Core course I | 3 | 90 | A+ | 10.00 | 3 × 10.00 = 30.00 |
| Core course II | 4 | 75 | A | 9.00 | 4 × 9.00 = 36.00 |
| Core course III | 3 | 60 | B+ | 7.00 | 3 × 7.00 = 21.00 |
| Elective | 3 | 52 | B | 6.00 | 3 × 6.00 = 18.00 |
| Lab / practical | 2 | 40 | C+ | 4.00 | 2 × 4.00 = 8.00 |
| Total | 15 | 113.00 |
Step by step
- Convert each course mark to a grade point. Work out each course as a percentage of its total marks, then read the letter off the Amity University Haryana grading table. 90 out of 100 is 90%, which falls in the A+ band and is worth 10.00 grade points.
- Multiply each grade point by the course credit hours. Credit hours decide how much each course counts, so multiply to get quality points: 3 × 10.00 = 30.00, 4 × 9.00 = 36.00, 3 × 7.00 = 21.00, 3 × 6.00 = 18.00, 2 × 4.00 = 8.00.
- Add the quality points and the credit hours. Adding the five courses gives 113.00 quality points across 15 credit hours.
- Divide to get the semester GPA. 113.00 ÷ 15 = 7.53, the semester GPA for this term at Amity University Haryana.
- Fold the semester into your CGPA. If you had already completed 45 credit hours at a CGPA of 8.00, those carry 360.00 quality points. Add this semester and the CGPA becomes (360.00 + 113.00) ÷ (45 + 15) = 7.88.
Notice how the 4-credit course moves the average roughly twice as hard as the 2-credit lab. That credit-hour weighting is the whole reason a GPA is not just the average of your grade points.
